On one occasion I was participating in an activity within a retreat, in which the first step was to find a place in our prayer where we felt completely safe. The rest of the day would build from this first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Little by little, the people who were in the activity were finding that place of feeling protected and safe in our prayer, and as we were doing so, we could notice it in our facial expressions. Even more, we even reflected it in the posture of our body, which was no longer so rigid and tense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day went on, with other activities and reflections that for me were complementing each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of the day, we were asked how our experience had been. One by one, we expressed what it was like for each one of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The comments were very profound, and although different among us, there was an echo of having received a peace sensation. Except for one person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This person shared that the whole day had been very difficult for her. She wanted to participate, she wanted to receive what she saw others were receiving. But she just couldn’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asked if she knew since when, she replied:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
-Yes, from the beginning. I couldn’t find a place where I felt safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And you, in your personal prayer, do you feel safe?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On several occasions, the scripture tells us how good it is to trust God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Is it easy for you to trust in God? And how about trusting others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus himself tells us that the poor, the hungry, and those who cry will have the kingdom, will be satisfied, and will laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus seems to recognize that not everything is always life and happiness, and at the same time he makes reference to something beyond those discomforts. Jesus tells us that we are blessed, that we can rejoice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How must the crowd have received his words?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How do you receive them? Do you trust his message? Could it be that God wants to earn your trust too?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our partner in the retreat had a very difficult time finding a place of rest, of safety in her prayer with Jesus. And she could not trust him, not in the way that the rest of us expressed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the Spirit leads you, share with Jesus the carpenter how much you trust him. And perhaps, together, explore how safe you feel at his side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
