Hello, thank you for sharing this time with your self. If you have a chance, would you like to have something? A tea, coffee, or something of your preference.
After doctors found a golf ball size brain tumor following an emergency referral from my optometrist in November 2021, I had so many sensations and thoughts that I didn’t even know where to start processing. Imagine a funnel or cone that is clogged. This was my interior.
As far as the situation allowed, I was conscious and alert, at least to sign the consent documents for the surgery.
Have you had a similar situation with your health, with your body? What was that experience like for you? How easy or difficult was it for you to process your circumstance?
Until then, my health had been apparently generally good. But that diagnosis only arose after studies focused on looking for something in my head. Symptoms did not show up previously due to lack of critical discomfort. However, there were symptoms, I just confused them with worries about personal problems, and situations caused by the pandemic.
If so, what was your reaction when you discovered something different about your health? Or on the health of someone close to you?
There is no place where God is not, there is no way where God is not found. How then can we find God in illness?
The parts of the body are different, but the Spirit is the same, Paul says. There was a moment when these words did not console me at all. What I wanted more than anything was to recover my sight, and I had no concrete answers from the doctors.
Those ill parts of my body, are still part of me. However, how could I embrace them the same as before? Well, it wasn’t the same as before. Could it be that God “left” those injured parts of my body? Those were questions that were present in me.
If you have found yourself with the dilemma between believing and accepting something different than what it is, then I think we have found ourselves in the same place.
In your case, in your experience, where do you find the Holy Spirit?
After I had surgery, when I left the hospital I was no longer looking for reasons, regrets, or pointing fingers for having or not having done what would have prevented the tumor. It was time to look for how I was going to move forward with my life, and with my body, which was still very fragile.
The parts of the body are many, but the Spirit is the same.
Again, there is no way where God is not, there is no place where God is not found. How then can we find God in illness?
How about changing the question then? It is not about whether or not the Holy Spirit is present in the body, but rather how it is, how I can perceive and receive it.
Seek and you shall find, don’t seek, and don’t find. Obviously, but of great significance. If you and I look for discomfort, ailments, deterioration, that is what we are going to find. If you and I look for stability, strength, and recovery, chances are we will find that.
I know that the Holy Spirit is in your life, although I don’t know how, but is there with you, because there is no place, time or circumstance where he is not. Do you perceive it? Do you receive it?
By receiving the Holy Spirit, the apostles were able to communicate in a new way. Other people who didn’t understand them before began to understand them. They were able to communicate with people they couldn’t before.
Seen from another angle, do you remember if you have ever found yourself in a situation of being ignored, relegated,? And some time later, were you taken into account, listened to, and your contributions, or your silence? It feels good to be taken into account, to be included, to be seen, to be valued.
If you find yourself in a situation where there is something you cannot communicate, perhaps you can ask the Holy Spirit to help you express yourself in another way. I cannot guarantee that you will begin to speak in another language, but asking to receive the Holy Spirit is a good beginning to establish communication with ignored parts of your body and your health, or with other people who speak about different topics or in a different way. You will be able to share, listen, talk, interact. And possibly, create community.
If this is the case, you don’t need to have everything resolved from start to finish and once and for all. Whether it is a health situation or whether you are considering all parts off yourself. into account, or whether you take someone else into account, just being on the way is enough. Jesus the carpenter is the way, and Jesus the carpenter gives you the Holy Spirit. Do you receive it?
The Holy Spirit can help us communicate better, with ourselves and with others.
Marisol
P.S. We can hear about the Holy Spirit in the readings for Pentecost Sunday, year/cycle B.
